Dan Ramsey has served the UMM in as many ways as you can imagine. Dan is the current Texas Annual Conference President, former National Association of Conference President and all around UMM Leader.
He went in to have a Double Knee Replacement which was ultimately successful, but immediately after this surgery doctors discovered a serious heart blockage. Dan subsequently underwent triple-bypass open heart surgery!
Thanks to your prayers both surgeries went well and Dan is in a rehab facility getting therapy that literally puts him back on his feet! His outlook is extraordinarily positive and he is eager to get back to work!
Larry Coppock who served as the Director of Scouting Ministries with the GCUMM for 21 years, joins Scouting founder Sir Baden Powell in receiving the top award from BSA!
Created in 1925, the Silver Buffalo Award for distinguished service to youth is awarded to those persons who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award is Scouting’s highest commendation of the invaluable contributions that outstanding Americans make to youth. The service must be national in scope and can be independent of, or directly through, the Boy Scouts of America.
The 2018 Silver Buffalo Award went to Larry for his unparalleled dedication to serving our nation’s youth through Scouting. Under Larry’s leadership the United Methodist Church became the second largest facilitator of Scouting in the world!
Larry retires from serving as the GCUMM Director of Scouting Ministries but is stepping directly into leading the spin-off non-profit “Strength For Service” as the Executive Director! More to follow!
Hanging Fabric to complete a temporary Quonset Hut Dwelling!
UMM volunteers from 1st UMC Denham Springs, LA work on flooded home restoration. Here they are rigging a temporary Quonset Hut dwelling for home owners to live in while extensive restoration work takes place in their flooded house.
Rev. Robert Johnson’s church, Louisiana Avenue UMC – Lafayette, LA, hosts an annual Good Friday Prayer outreach for commuters each year. Sidney J. Simon, UMM State Prayer Advocate, served folks by praying for each as they entered the DRIVE-THRU PRAYER LINE!
People can pull into the church’s driveway where they are met by volunteer who prays for them. After the volunteer gives everyone in the car an envelope full of mustard seeds with a Bible verse attached and a Carnation with a scripture on the stem.
You can literally see the glow on drivers faces as they pull away, prayed up and blessed by God’s finest!

David Byerley is the LA Annual Conference UMM Vice President & states that he wanted to become trained for a couple of reasons. First to be equipped to personally serve, but secondly to have first-hand knowledge so that he can effectively share and invite others to serve!

UNITED METHODIST MEN IN SERVICE!
It started like any other project that the men of a church might undertake. A few guys with a lot of good intentions but not a lot of experience, got together to build a wheelchair ramp for the daughter of one of the women in the church.
After three weekends of measuring, cutting, concreting and securing, the wooden temporary wheelchair ramp was finally finished. The most important thing happened after we laid our drills down. We realized that there had to be a better way to go about serving in this ministry. We studied and researched and came up with a plan. We decided to go into the modular wheelchair ramp arena. This would allow us to provide a temporary solution that we could use again and again.
Our men even found a unique way to fund-raise for our ramps in order to make the most of our other talents, cooking! We decided we would smoke some chickens and use the proceeds to buy modular ramps. After several rounds of smoking various meats (chickens, turkeys, hams) we now have a fleet of 6 temporary wheelchair ramps. We deploy them from a couple of weeks to several months at a time and then bring them back home to be used again. We have had 10 successful installations in the last two years and a lot of people are sharing the good works our men have done in the way of helping our neighbors.
